Recently in 2013, the movie 42 was released. The film depicts the life and career of Major League Baseball player Jackie Robinson. Other than is his baseball career many people are not aware of Robinson's ties to Kentucky and Ohio.
Jackie Robinson was the godfather to Ernie Waits, Jr., the son of his best friend Ernest "Ernie" Waits, Sr.
“Jackie Robinson was my godfather -- not out of respect for me but out of respect for my father; obviously, the respect was mutual,” Waits Jr. said.
Waits Jr. said it is always humbling when he tells people that Robinson was his godfather. He said he hopes people see the movie so they realize what life was like during that time in American history.
